The new NIKEN comes with an intrepid design that looks very futuristic. It features a downward-curving front cowl that also houses a sleek-looking dual LED headlamp setup. It comes with a tall transparent visor that protects against windblasts and it also gets stylish LED turn signal integrated mirrors. Yamaha has used smooth body panels that bode really well with the overall design of this motorcycle. Its unique two-front leaning wheels and upside-down forks give this touring bike an imposing stance. The Yamaha NIKEN looks straight out of a sci-fi movie due to its distinctive design.
This sports tourer comes with an 847cc, 3-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that is based on the cross-plane crankshaft design. The DOHC engine of the Yamaha NIKEN comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and it also gets a quick shifter system along with an assist and slipper clutch mechanism. It gets a Yamaha chip-controlled throttle system that provides seamless acceleration. It is also equipped with a cruise control and driving mode selector that allows you to choose between 3 engine characteristic modes. The Yamaha NIKEN makes 116 PS of max power at 10,000 RPM and 87 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 RPM. It has a top speed of nearly 218 km/h and it manages to deliver a fuel economy of nearly 18 km/l.
The NIKEN is based on a diamond-type frame that is made up of hybrid steel and aluminium. It comes fitted with dual Inverted forks at the front end, while it comes with a link-type mono-shock suspension at the rear end. The advanced leaning multi-wheel design technology allows this sports tourer to achieve a bank angle of 45 degrees and deliver amazing cornering performance. The braking duties are taken care of by dual 298 mm disc brakes at the front wheel and a single 282 mm disc brake at the rear wheel. Yamaha NIKEN is packed with an anti-lock braking system and traction control system with two levels of intervention and an off switch.
Yamaha NIKEN is more on the heavier side due to its complex design and it has a kerb weight of 267 kg. The seat height of this sports tourer is 835 mm and it manages to provide a ground clearance of 150 mm. Its fuel tank capacity is 18 litres which give this bike an amazing riding range. Talking about the features, it gets a fully digital LCD instrument cluster like the Yamaha MT 125 with negative-positive inversion liquid crystal that displays white characters on black background. Currently, Yamaha has launched the NIKEN in limited markets only. As of now, the brand has revealed no plans to introduce this three-wheel bike in the Indian market. If Yamaha chooses to launch the MT-09 in near future then the brand might as well launch this sports tourer alongside it. If it is launched in India in near future it will have a much higher price tag than its naked sibling MT-09. The Yamaha NIKEN price in India is expected to be around Rs 16,00,000 (ex-showroom price).
